Canadian Government Forced to Review Safety of 23 Pesticides

Environmental groups in Canada have forced the federal government to review 23 ingredients that are used in 383 different pesticide products approved for sale in Canada. These pesticides have been banned in European countries and the environmental groups (David Suzuki Foundation and Equiterre, represented by Ecojustice lawyers) won a legal challenge which will force the Canadian government to review their safety.

Breastfeeding and Low Supply: Common and Surprising Causes and Solutions

Low milk supply is always listed as a top reason why mothers quit breastfeeding and switch to formula. Although experts often claim that the percentage of women who can't produce enough milk is extremely small (usually numbers under 5% are quoted, without any specific source being given), the number of women who say they tried everything and still couldn't make enough milk seems to be on the rise. This article explores some of the possible reasons for that, including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), diabetes and pre-diabetes, and mammary hypoplasia (insufficient glandular tissue).

Breastfeeding, Sleep Deprivation, and Postpartum Depression: How To Manage?

There is research that indicates that mothers with PPD who do not get enough sleep are at greater risk for more severe depression. There is also research that demonstrates a link between weaning and depression, although it is unclear whether weaning causes depression or depression causes weaning. To complicate matters even more, there is also research that shows that mothers who are not exclusively breastfeeding have poorer sleep quality. So what do you do if you have PPD, aren't getting enough sleep, and breastfeeding is the only thing that is going right for you?
