What Does It Mean To Support Breastfeeding? Your Answers - Part 1

Last week, I asked fellow Canadians on twitter if they support breastfeeding. A lot of people asked "what do you mean by support?". I think the answer is different for each person, but I was interested to hear from you. If you do consider yourself a breastfeeding supporter, what does that mean? I wanted to know, so I put together a survey, open to both Canadians and non-Canadians, and asked a bunch of questions about factors that are often or sometimes equated with breastfeeding support. I got 1631 responses to the survey.

What is a Breastfeeding Supporter?

Yesterday on twitter, I said:

Do you consider yourself a Canadian breastfeeding supporter? If so, speak up! I'm making a list.

Some people responded, "Yes, I believe in choice". Other people responded "No, I believe in choice". Other people responded with "what do you mean by support?". I asked the question because I do a lot of breastfeeding support and breastfeeding advocacy work and I wanted to ensure that I was following the right people and engaging the right people and I wanted to be a bit more organized about it.

But it created some confusion that I didn't intend. So I decided to clarify it by asking you what it means to be a breastfeeding supporter.

Facebook vs. Breastfeeding 2012 Year in Review

Four years ago, I wrote a post about facebook deleting breastfeeding pictures and addressing some of the issues people were discussing. I gave three reasons people may want to post breastfeeding pictures and three stupid reasons for wanting to ban breastfeeding pictures from facebook.
